Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act
About the Act
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was signed into law in July 2014 to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market as well as to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.
WIOA is overseen by the U.S. Department of Labor and administered by state workforce agencies and local workforce development boards (WDBs). WIOA authorizes a variety of programs, including Job Corps, the WIOA Youth Program, and YouthBuild, each of which includes targeted guidelines related to serving youth experiencing homelessness.
