Perkins Career and Technical Education Act

About the Act

The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) was signed into law in July 2018, reauthorizing the federal Perkins Career and Technical Education Act. The Act authorizes federal funding to states and discretionary grantees for the improvement of secondary and postsecondary career and technical education (CTE) programs across the nation.

Under Perkins V, learners experiencing homelessness are one of nine “special populations”, requiring intentional focus on CTE access and success for students experiencing homelessness in the areas of state and local CTE plans, funding, and evaluation and accountability.
