President's Message by Sandi Coulter
Hooray for summer! I’m sure that every teacher looks forward to
this much awaited event. For me, it is a
time to reflect, re-energize, and re-organize.
What have I accomplished this past year?
Did I meet my goals? How can I
change my practice of teaching to deliver a quality experience for my
students? Did I promote my program? Have I contacted my legislative representatives? Did I attend the Home
Economics Careers and Technology professional development activities? What can I do to improve my FHA-HERO Chapter? What do I need to do to re-tool
for next year? I hope that each one of you takes the time to reflect so that you will
have an even better year next year.
In June, I attended the HECT Lodging and Foodservice Industry Training
in Riverside. It was a fun-filled week of learning and
networking with colleagues. The highlight of the training was the internship experiences at the Marriot
Hotel. The insight and experiences of the Marriot staff really brought
home what our students need to be successful in the Lodging Industry. Put this training on your calendar as a MUST DO and sign up when this training is offered again. It was a valuable
experience that you won’t want to miss.
Don’t forget to
re-energize. Traveling or just staying
at home are activities that work for me.
This summer I have packed with golf, a trip to Japan, and at home time. I hope that whatever you
choose will help you to be refreshed for the year ahead.
I hope that you plan to attend
one of the California Department of Education Home Economics Careers and
Technology Education Summer Workshops in August. The workshops will help you to re-organize
for the start the new school year. The executive board and I are hoping to see
you there!
